The project takes advantage of the opportunity presented by an energy renovation to redefine the relationships between the living spaces of this Ixelles triplex, located in a terraced house.
The layout consists of two square spaces. On the street side, the living room and two bedrooms are stacked. At the rear, there is a classic arrangement that includes the vertical circulation and kitchen on the first floor (+1), the bathroom on the second floor (+2), and an office on the third floor (+3).
In addition to insulation and other energy-related interventions, the project's primary strategy focuses on openings. Lowering the kitchen window ledge creates the possibility of installing a terrace. The wall separating the circulation area from the kitchen is also pierced to bring light from the landings into the heart of the living spaces and to offer cross views.
The wall separating the living room from the kitchen is then opened, allowing for the installation of a bench along the kitchen island, bridging the two square spaces.
A long curtain allows for flexible use of the spaces, opening or closing towards the street, covering the bookshelf, or separating the kitchen from the living room during winter days.
